The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 on Tuesday that just because police are executing a search warrant at your house, they cannot detain you if you have left your home and are — in this case — about a mile away. If you’re still on your lawn or otherwise on the premises, that’s a different story. And in a drug-sniffing dog case, it ruled unanimously that Aldo can search your truck even if his reliability in the field has not been extensively documented.
