Supreme Court Gene Ruling Splits Hairs Over What's 'Natural'

The Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that human genes cannot be patented. The case involved a Utah company, Myriad Genetics, that held patents on genes associated with increased risk for breast and ovarian cancer. The court did say synthetic genes can be patented.
