The U.S. continues to mount airstrikes against Islamic State targets in Iraq, with the limited aims of serving humanitarian goals and protecting U.S. personnel and facilities. NPR’s Tom Bowman examines whether U.S. airstrikes can put an end to the militant group Islamic State, or if they’ll need to rely on local forces, as well.
