Oregon Department of Transportation crews have blocked off one lane of Portland’s Fremont bridge to deal with a bridge joint that popped up.
The affected area is the right-hand lane, southbound.
ODOT spokesman Don Hamilton explained the joints connect the concrete panels that make up the bridge.
“From time to time, over wear, one of these bridge joints can pop up a little bit. It can create a hazard for cars. It’s very important we get in to fix those as quickly as we can, to make sure no cars are damaged in the process.”
However, Hamilton says there’s no structural hazard. He estimates the closure, which began at noon Tuesday will last until 8PM.
Drivers should definitely expect delays.
