Hundreds of police officers from Oregon and across the country gathered Thursday to remember Oregon City Officer Robert Libke. A procession and memorial service was held.
The procession began at Clackamas Community College and ended at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in the Rose Quarter.
Officer Libke died after he was shot as he responded ten days ago to a house fire in Oregon City. The shooter killed himself after a SWAT unit opened fire on him.
Edmond Daly is a Chicago Police Officer. He traveled to Oregon with another Chicago policeman for Libke’s memorial.
“If two seconds of the family’s time can just be taken away from their loss just by a kind word from us, then we’ve succeeded, and we’ve completed our mission,” Daly says.
Daly says he’s part of an organization known as The Brotherhood of the Fallen, which donated one thousand dollars to Libke’s family.
Officer Libke’s remains will be interred at the Lincoln Memorial Park in Portland.
