Oregon parks officials say federal wildlife agents have shot and killed a coyote they believe is likely the same animal that bit a 5-year-old Ocean City girl at an Oregon coastal park.

The girl is undergoing a series of rabies shots. Oregon State University will examine the dead coyote for any evidence of disease.

The girl's mother says the child was bitten last Thursday evening while walking with her family through the dunes at Nehalem Bay State Park. The mother told KATU-TV the girl was dragging a stick in the sand when the coyote approached from behind and grabbed at it. The animal then nipped the girl's back, breaking the skin.

Parks Department spokesman Chris Havel says several other park visitors reported encountering an aggressive coyote that evening and one took a photo of the animal. Parks officials say the photo strongly resembles the 20-pound adult coyote killed last Saturday.
