The Oregon Bach Festival is changing conductors this week, for the first time in its 44 summer seasons.
Eighty-year-old founding Artistic Director Helmuth Rilling will pass over his baton on Sunday afternoon.
The Eugene Register-Guard reports that in his last performance Rilling will lead the orchestra and chorus in Bach’s B Minor Mass.
Matthew Halls will succeed Rilling. Halls is a 37-year-old British conductor who was educated at Oxford.
Rilling will continue to guest conduct in Oregon and at the International Bach Academy, which he founded in Stuttgart in 1981.
