Lena Alhusseini, Oregon’s former child welfare program director, told an advisor to Gov. Kate Brown in March that she felt “targeted and vilified” after coming to the post last November, emails obtained by the Statesman Journal show.

Her email to Debbie Koreski, Brown’s Senior Director of Budget and Children’s Policy, came days after a controversial report came out critical of a strategy Alhusseini had advocated for.

It’s unclear who Alhusseini felt was vilifying and targeting her. She said in an email to the Statesman Journal she had family commitments on Sunday but could speak at a later date.

Emails obtained through a public records request shed light on tensions in the lead-up to Alhusseini’s resignation last Wednesday.
