One of the four Americans killed in the attack on the U.S. Embassy in Libya this week, was an Oregon City High School graduate.
Tyrone Woods was a former Navy SEAL. He was providing security at the consulate in Benghazi when it was attacked by protesters. He was killed along with ambassador Chris Stevens, state department employee Sean Smith, and security officer Glen Doherty.
In a statement, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said friends and colleagues relied on Woods' courage and skill. She said he served multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. And since 2010, he protected American diplomatic personnel in dangerous posts from Central America to the Middle East.
In her statement, Clinton noted that he earned distinction as a registered nurse and certified paramedic.
Woods recently lived in the San Diego area with his wife, Dr. Dorothy Narvaez-Woods, a dentist. His youngest son Kai was born just a few months ago. He also had two other sons, Tyrone Junior and Hunter, with his ex-wife.
