The Oregon Food Bank is getting a new leader. As head of Alaska's food bank, Susannah Morgan ran an organization that distributed 13 million pounds of food over 13 regions. Oregon's Food Bank operates on a larger scale, with 81 million pounds delivered last year.
She said, "Alaska is nearly 600,000 square miles, and we ship food by plane. There aren't roads that connect communities in Alaska."
Morgan says it'll be a change working in a place where food can be moved by truck.
Morgan says she was drawn by the Oregon Food Bank's focus on both food distribution and fighting the causes of hunger.
Morgan starts the new job November 5. She takes the place of longtime Oregon Food Bank CEO Rachel Bristol, who retired at the end of June.
