Coos County voters approved Measure 6-151 Tuesday.  The initiative was designed to challenge gun control laws in Oregon.

The "Second Amendment Ordinance" prohibits the use of county funds to enforce a state background-check mandate that lawmakers passed earlier this year. The measure also allows the county sheriff to decide whether any new state or federal gun laws violate the U.S. Constitution.

"I don't see anything changing. We're simply going to do what we have to do," said Coos County Sheriff Craig Zanni.

Zanni says he's not actively searching for violations of the state background-check law. So his enforcement priorities remain the same.  He also said he doesn't expect to make a public decision about the constitutionality of gun laws anytime soon.

"We have nothing planned at this point. I am not going to get on my white charger with my lance and go chasing down any windmills today," said Zanni.

The measure was approved by 61 percent of Coos County voters.
