For the first time, Oregon's Health Authority will host a health fair in rural Lake County on Tuesday.

This health services fair targets under-served residents who are relatively far from health care resources. A report by the Oregon Office of Rural Health shows Lake County is an area of unmet health care need.

This rural event represents a slightly different tack for the agency, said Deanna Simon with the Oregon Health Authority.

"Typically right now the people we have on the ground in the counties to help people are located in the population centers like Lakeview or Klamath Falls," said Simon. "And so for somebody in the rural areas who has to drive in, we're really not bringing the services to those clients as well as we could. So we're changing that."

The Health Authority is setting up in rural Christmas Valley and offering up free fluoride treatments, blood pressure and child development screenings.
