The annual May Day rally and march at the Oregon State Capitol will close a number of Salem streets Monday.
Causa, an immigrant rights organization co-hosting the 12th annual rally with the Oregon School Employees Association, is expecting 1,000 attendees to fill the Capitol steps and march through downtown Salem as part of the national event that supports immigrant and worker rights.
This year, the event has grown to challenge President Donald Trump’s deportation order and heightened Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity in the state.
Gov. Kate Brown, Representative Teresa Alonso León and Leo Reyes, a member of the Oregon DACA Coalition and DACA recipient, will speak at the rally on the Capitol steps before the march through Salem.
