CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — Construction is underway on a $42 million Student Experience Center at Oregon State University.

The Corvallis Gazette-Times (http://bit.ly/1bl3piH ) reports the building will house student organizations such as the OSU Craft Center and Student Media. Completion is scheduled in January 2015.

The site has been a metered parking lot east of the Memorial Union, where visitors have been parking for decades for quick trips to the bookstore.

A new bookstore — officially the OSU Beaver Store — is under construction on the bottom floor of the parking garage at Southwest 26th Street across from Gill Coliseum. It is expected to open in the fall.

The moves are part of the university’s overall strategy of keeping vehicle access on the campus perimeter, so the interior is friendlier to bicycle and pedestrian traffic.
