Oregon State Names New Men's Basketball Coach
Oregon State University has hired Wayne Tinkle as the new head coach for the men’s basketball team. Tinkle previously coached at the University of Montana for eight seasons.
The 48-year-old Tinkle replaces Craig Robinson, who was fired earlier this month.
Tinkle is bringing with him a winning record. He took the Grizzlies to the NCAA tournament three times during his coaching career at the University of Montana.
Lamar Hurd is a former basketball player at Oregon State. He says Coach Tinkle’s philosophy is what the basketball team needs.
“He’s a guy that has a clear idea in his program and how his guys play, is hard working, is disciplined, and has a pretty good track record as a head coach,” Hurd says. “And, I think one of the special things that he does is he always gets the most out of his players.”
Hurd says one of Tinkle’s first challenges will be to put together a roster after many players last season either graduated or transferred.
Tinkle is Oregon State’s twenty-first men’s basketball coach.
