Oregon State University announced today that the school’s first comprehensive campaign has surpassed its $1 billion fund-raising goal. It did so 11 months ahead of schedule.

OSU President Ed Ray made the announcement at his annual State of the University address in Portland. Although the fund-raising campaign exceeded the goal, the president encouraged contributions through the remainder of the year.

Ray said this campaign helps the community overall. “Profoundly benefited students, faculty, the university, the state of Oregon, and all of those we serve.”

Ray said the funds raised will create more scholarships, fellowships and new facilities, including new cultural centers, and will go toward renovations at the OSU basketball center.

He cited growth at OSU’s Corvallis campus, the Cascades campus in Bend and its online courses.
