The principal at Portland's Grant High says the school is attempting to recover from a widely-publicized attack in a locker room last month.

Principal Vivian Orlen confirms that police are looking into an alleged sexual assault in a basketball locker room on January 12th, and whether it's part of a pattern of violence at the school.

Orlen says she suspended four kids and expelled one of them to maintain safety at Grant.

She says the two victims and three alleged attackers want to reconcile. Orlen said during her interview with OPB, the students were in a room together with two school officials

"As we speak, there is a mediation going on across those young men, who I believe have a desire to co-exist peacefully here, at Grant."

Orlen says since the incident, Grant parents have come forward to tell her of a "culture of bullying and hazing" in the athletic program.

She says she's "confused" when parents say they didn't report it before, out of fear of retaliation from coaches.
