On Patrol With Ranger Apley Audio Slideshow

Southeast Oregon is a large but sparsely populated area.  Lake County only has 15 law enforcement officers in the entire county.

Bureau of Land Management Ranger Patrick Apley is one of them -- in fact he’s the only BLM law enforcement officer patrolling the 3.2 million acre Lakeview District.

In addition to basic law enforcement, he also handles fire investigations, poaching cases, livestock enforcement, and helps protect cultural resources.

Add in medical calls, off-highway vehicle enforcement, and public safety and you have some idea of what Apley does for a living.

Pete Springer recently spent a day on the job with Ranger Apley and produced this audio postcard about his job.
