Beaverton police shot and killed a woman Thursday evening.
Police identified the woman Friday as 29 year-old Chelsea Fresh.
Police say Fresh’s boyfriend told officers his girlfriend was suicidal, and the two had been arguing.
Police say one of the officers on the scene was a crisis negotiator and tried to defuse the situation for about an hour.
Beaverton police spokesman Mike Rowe says Fresh emerged from a residence several times holding a rifle.
“The officers had to defend themselves, firing on her, and sadly she was deceased,” Rowe says. “It’s a horrible situation when any police officer has to take someone’s life. … It’s even harder if you have to take someone’s life because … they felt they had nothing else to live for.”
Rowe says an investigation is underway and the officers involved in the shooting are on paid administrative leave.
