A truck driver who police say was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of the I-205 bridge has been arrested on drunk and reckless driving charges.

Kenneth Eugene Burgess, 49, was booked into the Multnomah County Jail Monday morning.

Police say the incident began at about 4:20 Monday morning when witnesses called 911 reporting a wrong-way driver on I-84. The tractor-trailer truck was said to be traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes.

Sheriff’s deputies pursued the truck but it made it onto the I-205 bridge and almost to the Washington State line before it crashed into another car.

The driver of that car was injured, but the injuries were not life-threatening, according to authorities.

A Portland Police car was damaged by the debris of the crash and had to be towed from the scene.

The lane closures on the bridge gummed up the morning commute.

It reopened a little after 10 a.m. Monday.
