Portland Parks and Recreation has closed most of its sports fields in the city due to heavy rains. These are fields located at Portland parks and school and used by youth and adult sports leagues.

Parks and Rec spokesman Mark Ross says rain has made the fields unsafe for playing.

“You’re going to step and either create a slippery mud spot running full speed, or you’re going to sink down because the ground is so over-saturated and twist your ankle, twist your knee.”

Ross says inspectors will check field conditions on Thursday to decide whether to re-open them.

He says there more than 200 active field permits. Portland Youth Soccer cancelled 129 games last weekend due to the storm.
