Multnomah County Jail

Portland Police have arrested a man they believe to be the so-called “hipster bandit,” suspected of a series of bank robberies that began this summer.

Harvie Dale Oglesby III was arrested following a robbery Friday at the Consolidated Community Credit Union at Northeast 20th and Sandy Boulevard, Portland. They found him riding a bicycle away from the area of the bank, and determined that he matched the description of a person who had used a note to demand money from the credit union.

Detectives said they believe Oglesby is also responsible for four other robberies, close to one a month since July, at financial institutions around the city.

The nickname “hipster bandit” arose when a witness to an August bank robbery told police that the culprit “looked like a hipster.”

Oglesby is being held in the Multnomah County Jail as he awaits federal bank robbery charges.
