Police continue to investigate two shootings that took place in Southeast Portland early Friday morning.
Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a 24-year-old woman at an apartment complex near Powell and SE 124th Avenue. Shots were reported there just after 1 a.m.
Police spokesman Pete Simpson says investigators have no motive yet for the killing. They’re searching for four men who fled the scene in a car, crashed a few blocks away, then ran into the neighborhood.
“We can’t say 100 percent certain that those are the people who are responsible, but when you have a vehicle flee officers at the scene of a homicide, that’s a clue,” he said.
Simpson says the young woman’s death brings the number of homicides in Portland this year to 12. The city’s homicide rate is at a historic low.
Simpson says another shooting at Southeast Division and near I-205 is likely gang-related. The two shootings do not appear linked.
