The new Portland Thorns women's soccer team learned Friday that some top players are assigned to its roster.
Among them are former University of Portland forward Christine Sinclair and U.S. Women’s National Team forward Alex Morgan. The allocations are being announced Friday for the National Women's Soccer League. Portland's team is owned by Merritt Paulson, who also owns the Timbers.
Thorns head coach Cindy Parlow Cone said in a statement that she's "thrilled with today’s allocation" and that she sees the seven players allocated as a "terrific foundation for this club."
University of Washington alum Hope Solo will be playing for Seattle.
