Portland Thorns head coach Cindy Parlow Cone resigned Thursday. She was with the organization for a season and led the team to the league championship in the Thorns’ inaugural year.

Cone announced on her Twitter account that the decision to step down was best for her family, and that she left the organization on amicable terms.

Merritt Paulson is owner and president of the Thorns.  He tweeted that Cone will be missed, and that he expects to announce the new Thorns head coach next week.

Cone played with the U.S. women’s national team from 1995 thru 2006.
