Contractors have been working on repainting the bridge since June, now they have to remove overhead scaffolding erected during the project.
Multnomah County says that when the scaffolding is down, all four lanes of traffic will reopen on April 11. In the meantime, expect delays as traffic will have to reroute to alternate bridges. Though, pedestrian and bike traffic can continue to use the north sidewalk.
According to TriMet, the 17-Holgate/Broadway bus route will use the Steel Bridge during the closure. But from March 27 through the end of April the Steel bridge will close nightly from 10 to 5 .am.. During those closures buses — including route 17 — will reroute over the Burnside Bridge. The Portland Streetcar will continue to serve its usual routes by using Tilikum Crossing for river crossings.
