A small group of protesters convened in downtown Portland for a fifth consecutive night following the election of Donald Trump.

The crowd attempted to march through the streets before police quickly directed them back to Pioneer Courthouse Square, labeling it an “unpermitted protest march.”

Earlier Saturday, Police Chief Mike Marshman and Portland Mayor Charlie Hales called on protesters not to march after four consecutive nights of large-scale demonstrations. Many Portland businesses sustained damage during protests Thursday.

Several protesters lingered in the streets around the square Saturday after police ordered them to move to the sidewalk. Police had arrested at least four people in Saturday’s demonstration as of 8 p.m.
