Major League Soccer announced Thursday that one of Europe’ elite soccer clubs will be the international opponent at next year’s All-Star game in Portland. Bayern Munich will be the first German club to play in the MLS All-Star game.

The game will be played on August 6 at Jeld-Wen Field. And, the Timbers’ head coach Caleb Porter will coach the MLS All-Stars.

Jörg Wacker is with Bayern Munich. He says the All-Star game is a way for the club to reach its approximately 10 million fans in the U.S.

We are really proud that we are one of the best teams in the world and really looking forward to play the MLS All-Star game; and I’m very confident that our coach Pep Guardiola will come over with our best team and all of our superstars,” Wacker said.

Bayern Munich won the 2013 Champions League title and are the defending champions of the Bundesliga — the top league in Germany.

The game will be nationally broadcast in the United States and televised to countries all over the world.
