Portland city parks officials say a concerned resident sent the city $3.25 to cover the costs associated with the disappearance last week of a tiny tree from Mill Ends Park.

The small tree disappeared some time last week, but parks officials believe it was the one that reappeared on Friday, roots and all.

Parks and Recreation spokesman Mark Ross said no one has come forward to claim responsibility for the theft.

A new tree was planted in Mill Ends Park on Friday.

The returned tree is in a planter at the department, waiting for a new home.
