Major shipping companies are avoiding the Port of Portland. That's due to a complex labor dispute. It involves jobs related to operating refrigeration systems at Terminal 6.

Two unions claim the jobs. A federal judge has asked former-Governor Ted Kulongoski to mediate settlement talks as a "special master."

Those private conversations entered a second day Tuesday.

So what's the economic impact on our region of the stalled port traffic?

I asked Joe Cortright. He chairs the Governor's Council of Economic Advisors. He's also president of Impresa, an economic consulting firm.
