Emergency responders are trying to determine what happened on a stretch of I-84 near Pendleton Sunday morning.

Around 10:30 Sunday morning, a tour bus carrying about 40 people lost control, crashed through a guard rail and plunged at least 100 feet down an embankment.

Nine people are dead, at least 26 people were hurt.

Geoff Norcross spoke Monday morning with Phil Wright. He’s a reporter with the East Oregonian newspaper and he joined us from Pendleton.
