Teachers in the Reynolds School District became the third teachers union in east Multnomah County to vote to go on strike. Union officials say Tuesday night's vote approved a strike on May 21st, if a deal isn't reached by then.

In a statement, the local union's president expressed frustration at the pace of bargaining. She accused the district of using the "same playbook" as Parkrose and Gresham-Barlow, where strike votes also took place.

Teachers actually took to the picket lines in Gresham-Barlow before reaching a settlement. Parkrose struck a deal before a strike.

Reynolds officials have said their situation is different from their neighbors. They point out that the Reynolds union has taken steps like unilaterally declaring "impasse" and voting to strike.

As Reynolds teachers voted, schools in the southern Oregon district of Eagle Point were closed due to a school employee strike.
