The Roseburg Regional Airport has expanded its runway in hopes of attracting more corporate jets.

Airport Director Mike Danielle told The News-Review that the stripes being painted on runway this week will mark the final step in the $2 million project.

The extension has added 400 feet to the strip, bringing its length to 5,002 feet.

Danielle says that's just long enough to make pilots of corporate jets feel more comfortable taking off with more fuel in their tanks and a full load of passengers.

A second project to move the taxiway 40 feet farther from the runway has received $5.5 million from the Federal Aviation Administration.

The taxiway must be moved because it's too close to the runway to meet FAA guidelines.
