Oregon’s Chief Education Officer may get a job offer later Monday, after a meeting of the City University of New York’s board of trustees.

Education Chief Rudy Crew is in the running to become the next president of Medgar Evers College — a branch of the City University of New York.

Gov. John Kitzhaber’s welcomed Crew just over a year ago as the state’s first-ever Chief Education Officer.

Crew has downplayed the likelihood of his leaving for New York.

The other two finalists have university-level administrative experience. Before coming to Oregon, Crew supervised K-12 school systems in New York City and Miami.

A spokesman for Governor Kitzhaber says his office heard from Crew two weeks ago about the presidential search at Medgar Evers College.

Crew’s contract pays him $280,000 – but only as long as he’s working for the state of Oregon.

The CUNY board is expected to pick the Medgar Evers president at a meeting Monday afternoon.
