The Salem City Council is holding a public meeting Monday evening at City Hall to hear a task force recommendation for the design of a proposed third bridge over the Willamette River in the city.
The bridge would ease traffic congestion and improve access to Interstate 5 for resident and businesses west of the river. Opponents question the need for the bridge and the cost and funding.
The Statesman Journal reports cost estimates range from about $150 million to about $700 million. Most of the revenue would have to be generated from local taxes and tolls.
