State Representative Mike Schaufler has lost his legislative seat in a Democratic Primary. High school teacher, Jeff Reardon, will be the Democratic nominee in November covering parts of Clackamas and east Multnomah County.

And it wasn’t close. Reardon was winning with more than 60 percent of the vote. He says he never doubted he’d beat Schaufler, but he was surprised by the margin. Reardon says he spent a lot of time talking to voters about local priorities.

Reardon said, "I just really think it was always a matter of personal values, and the values of this community. I would talk to people about creating jobs, about taking care of schools, about protecting the environment in the process. And the people I talked to really grabbed onto that notion."

Reardon had the support of a number of elected Democrats, including several of Schaufler’s colleagues in the Oregon House. Schaufler had frustrated House.
