Having it closed will allow construction crews to drill shafts and insert steel soldier piles. Work crews will be working day and night to try to limit the time the bridge is closed.

Mike Pullen is a spokesman for Multnomah County. He says people should allow extra time for their commutes.

It’s the busiest two-lane bridge in the state of Oregon. So it does have a big impact on traffic when it is closed.”

Pullen says commuters should plan alternate routes for next week.

The construction is part of Multnomah County’s project to replace the Sellwood Bridge.
