A winter storm warning for eastern Oregon calls for 4-to-8 inches of snow in Pendleton and Hermison, and up to a foot in cities at higher elevations, such as John Day and Heppner.

Residents in Eugene can expect an early morning snowfall Wednesday. Freezing snow could also been in the mix for the southern Willamette Valley. The storm will travel through Salem and reach Portland sometime midday. Forecasters are calling for as much as 3 inches of snow in the Portland metro area beginning Wednesday afternoon, just in time to complicate evening commutes.

“In the Portland metro area were looking at generally 1-3 inches of snow," Matthew Cullen, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Portland, said. "It looks like the heaviest and largest amounts of snow could actually end up somewhere between McMinnville through Salem. And down there on the order of 2-5 inches are possible.”

Unlike last week, Cullen said there won’t be ice associated with this storm. But lows Wednesday night could be in the mid-20s, meaning the snow could stick around Thursday.
