Western Oregon’s latest blast of winter weather brought down plenty of trees and power lines throughout the region.  But the the storms also shattered a number of records, as well.

Steve Pierce is the President of the Oregon Chapter of the American Meteorological Society.

He says the storm brought the heaviest snow this late in the season for the cities of Portland, Vancouver, Salem and Eugene.

Portland International Airport set another record with the latest measurable snowfall observed there in more than 60 years.

Although Pierce says record books show at least one snowfall back in April of 1936 in the days before measurements were taken at the airport.

“But by all intents and purposes, during modern times this is a very late, very heavy snowfall.  And it stretches all the way from Longview, Washington south to Cottage Grove, Oregon,” Pierce says.

Partly sunny skies are in forecast for Western Oregon on Friday.  Showers are due to return to the region over the weekend.
