The head of the Oregon State Police’s Office of Professional Standards has been placed on leave during an investigation of possible criminal conduct.

The police did not specify the nature of the investigation or the charges.

They said in a news release Thursday that a State Police major investigated them and has turned over his findings to a senior deputy district attorney in Linn County.

The police said 39-year-old Capt. Jeff Lanz was placed on administrative leave April 29.

Lanz joined the State Police in January 1999. He worked in the Oregon State University office until a promotion in July 2011 made him head of the department’s internal affairs unit.
