The president of one of Oregon's largest public employee unions says the organization has reached an agreement for a contract with the state.
American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees President Ken Allen says the agreement was reached shortly before 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Allen says state and union officials agreed not to talk about the deal outside of a press release that would be issued Tuesday by Gov. John Kitzhaber's office.
Kitzhaber press aides could not immediately be reached.
AFSCME represents about 6,000 state workers, including corrections officers and Department of Environmental Quality workers. The state and the union had previously disagreed on wages, health care premiums and unpaid days off.
Bargaining with the Service Employees International Union, the largest public-employee union, will resume on Friday.
