School employees reported a fire at a middle school in La Pine early Wednesday. The school was unoccupied at the time, but the fire caused significant damage to the roof of the school.
La Pine Fire Chief Mike Supkis said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
"It is considered malicious and an arson fire at this time," said Supkis. "The building is still standing, but there is significant damage on the roof of the gymnasium."
Supkis says fire crews managed to suppress the blaze in about fifteen minutes. The cost of the damage to the school is not yet known.
