A teenager accused of killing a 14-year-old Portland girl has been sentenced in a plea bargain to 18 years in prison on a manslaughter count, seven years less than the original murder charge would have carried.
KGW-TV reported that Parrish Bennette has no options for early release and would be 34 when released in 2029.
He was accused of killing 14-year-old Yashanee Vaughn, who disappeared in in March 2011.
Four months later, after a public campaign by her family, Bennette led police to her body buried along a trail on a hill, Rocky Butte, in northeast Portland.
Prosecutors say Bennette shot Vaughn twice at his home.
