Police in Springfield say a teen who was carrying two air rifles to school for a project caused a scare that prompted a temporary lockdown of several schools.
Sgt. R.A. Lewis says extra security measures were put in place Tuesday morning after a passer-by contacted police after seeing the teen.
Lewis tells The Register-Guard that police searched the area and determined the youth was a high school student with a pair of air rifles that were intended to be used as “props” in a project.
Police say the teen was counseled about carrying items “that look alarming to others.”
The lockdowns were lifted after about 90 minutes.
