The Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader the Dalai Lama is in Portland for speeches Thursday and Saturday on the environment.
He’s also delivering a public lecture Friday at the University of Oregon in Eugene.
The visit is hosted by Maitripa College, a Buddhist institution in southeast Portland. School president and professor Yangsi Rinpoche says he’s been inviting the Dalai Lama for years.
The 77-year-old won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989.
His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama is visiting Portland and Eugene to talk about an issue close to his heart: the environment.
There will be a number of events while he is here. One will be a panel discussion hosted by Dave Miller at Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Saturday, May 11th. OPB will broadcast it on Wednesday, May 15 at noon.
