Central Oregon residents woke up to snow-capped peaks this Thursday. But this winter, don't expect a big snow season. The recent cold front is not necessarily a sign of snow to come.

Douglas Weber, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pendleton, says he expects another warm, dry winter.

"It still looks like we're at an 85 to 90 percent chance that we're going to get an El Niño," said Weber.

"Typically for the Northwest an El Niño would suggest above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation."

That means that this winter could be a repeat of last winter. Last year, Oregon's snowpack was one of the lowest on record.
