The Portland Thorns will face top-seeded Western New York in the National Women’s Soccer League championship match on Saturday. The match is scheduled at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester.

The league’s inaugural championship match will be nationally televised. According to Thorns head coach Cindy Parlow Cone, injured star forward Alex Morgan is expected to play.

Karina LeBlanc is the Thorns goalkeeper. She says Thorns midfielder Allie Long has been key to the team’s performance during the playoffs.

Allie’s just stepped up big time for us at different points in the season. She’s filled a hole that we thought we’d lost and she’s been big time for us. But, at the same time bringing in every offensive skill she has. She’s ruthless in the midfield for us and that’s been huge for us,” she said.

The Thorns played the Western New York Flash twice during the regular season and tied both matches. Each team concluded the season with thirty-eight points.
