Portland’s professional soccer teams are playing this weekend. The Thorns are in the Midwest for their first-ever playoff game on Saturday; and the Timbers are heading north to faceoff against Seattle.
The Thorns are playing a semifinal match against FC Kansas City. If the Thorns win, Portland could host the National Women’s Soccer League Championship on August 31.
Cindy Parlow Cone is the Thorn’s head coach. She’s optimistic about injured star forward Alex Morgan being able to play.
“She went through the entire training session and felt really good, so I mean she’s still day-to-day and we’re going to continue monitoring her, but so far it looks like she should be good to give us some minutes.”
The Timbers will play the Seattle Sounders on Sunday. International star Clint Dempsey is expected to make his home debut.
The match is sold-out and over sixty-six thousand tickets have been sold. The match in Seattle could break the record for the largest regular season crowd in Major League Soccer history.
