Three wild horses have been found shot to death in the Ochoco National Forest about 30 miles east of Prineville, authorities said Tuesday as they turned to the public in hopes of getting more information to help solve the second such case in the area in 2 ½ years.
U.S. Forest Service law enforcement responded Sunday to the area of Forest Service Road 22 near the 500 spur north of Big Summit Prairie, after hunters reported finding two shot horses, said Crook County sheriff’s Sgt. James Savage.
They ended up finding three dead horses, two adults and an adolescent, Savage said, adding that “it appears that they had been shot several days prior.”
