The NCAA has announced that the University of Oregon will host the Outdoor Track and Field Championships for the next eight years.

Eugene had previously been selected to host the national meet next year.

Oregon’s Hayward Field will host the NCAA Track and Field Championships from 2014 thru 2021. The university has previously hosted eleven national championships, including last year’s event.

Vin Lananna is an Associate Athletic Director at the University of Oregon. He says this is great news for the university.

“But it’s even better news for the sport of track and field and all the student athletes who participate; and the 300  Division I NCAA institutions—it’s really good news for them ‘cause they’ll have an opportunity to compete in front of a very knowledgeable fan base and a very crowded stadium,” Lananna says.

Eugene is on track to be the home of more NCAA meets than any other city in the country.

Chicago, with thirteen championships, has hosted more NCAA meets at this point.
